Sphera Encapsulation at the 15th Microencapsulation Training School 2026: Italian Innovation at Loughborough

Scientific progress knows no borders. At Sphera Encapsulation, the first Italian company fully dedicated to research and development in encapsulation technologies, we are proud to bring our expertise to one of Europe’s most prestigious academic events.

From March 23 to 26, 2026, our team will be present in Loughborough, United Kingdom, for the 15th Microencapsulation Training School.

Hosted by Loughborough University and organized by the Bioencapsulation Research Group (BRG) in collaboration with industry and academic leaders, this event is the ideal stage to unlock the full potential of microencapsulation and bioencapsulation.

An Intensive program to excel in bioencapsulation

This year’s training school offers a four-day excellence program, where cutting-edge theory meets hands-on laboratory practice.

Attending this event provides an immersive experience designed to:

  • Acquire advanced technical skills in biomolecule and cell encapsulation processes.
  • Optimize formulation and characterization of encapsulated systems through live demonstrations.
  • Interact with international experts and researchers from around the world.

The integration of lectures and experimental activities allows professionals, PhD candidates, and applied researchers to elevate their technical know-how to new standards of precision.

Research and sustainability: showcasing our results at the Poster Session

A key highlight for Sphera Encapsulation will be the Poster Session, where we will visually present our research data and discuss technical details with the international scientific community.

Representing Sphera’s technical excellence on this occasion will be Sara, our Pickering  Emulsions expert, who will share insights and expertise gained in the field. Alongside her, we will present the results of an innovative doctoral project exploring the use of agri-food by-products for the encapsulation of bioactive oils. Specifically, our research focuses on:

  • Whey proteins: Recovered from the dairy industry and used as raw material to generate sustainable nanoparticles.
  • Pickering emulsions: Systems stabilized by these nanoparticles to ensure superior protection of lipophilic actives.
  • Resistance to industrial processes: Detailed analysis of compound stability during fluidized bed drying and spray drying.
  • Controlled release: Study of encapsulated systems under gastrointestinal conditions to maximize bioavailability.

These studies demonstrate how a circular economy approach can provide technological solutions that drastically improve the stability and efficacy of encapsulated nutrients.
